Bush hyraxmystery mammal ?・・・
Bush hyraxes (Heterohyrax brucei) are often mistaken for rodents, but in actuality are more closely related to elephants and sea cows. They have adapted to various environments. Most researches on wild bush hyraxes have been conducted in the Acacia savanna where kopjes (rocky isolated hills) exist. However, their ecology and behaviors have not been studied in detail in other environments. In savanna, they are considered to be diurnal and large part of the day (80-95%) they seem to be inactive and most of their time resting. Feeding occurs mainly in the morning and late afternoon. They forage on moonlit night. But our previous study suggested that they feed and forage in the evening in woodland. Our study aims to describe behavior pattern and ecology of this little known mammal in a different environment, miombo woodland. |
